| History |
1964: The Honda Formula1 team had his first Grand Prix races. It only took part at 3 races with Ronny Bucknum as driver, the team didn't finish any race.
1965: The driver Richie Ginther stepped in the second car after the first race of the season. With 2 cars in competition they made a total of 13 points in 8 Grand Prix. With a victory on the Grand Prix of Mexico.
1966: Honda was taking part in 3 races. It managed to finish 1 race. They where 7th in the Championship with 3 points.
1967: Honda decided to race with only 1 car again with a new driver John Surtees. In 9 races they won the Grand Prix of Italy. With a fourth place in the Constructors Championship and 20 points it was there most succesfull year so far.
1968: With 15 starts on the Grand Prix they finished 5 times. There where 2 podium finishes. With a 6th place in the Championship with a total of 14 points.
Honda retired from the Formula1. However it returned in 1983 as Engine for the team Spirit. In the year 1986-1992 they supplied McLaren, Williams and Tyrrel engines. After the year 1992 they retired again out of Formula1.
2000-2005 Honda supplied Engines again for BAR & Jordan (2001-2002). They relation between Honda & BAR was good enough to carry on and negotations for a 'takeover' has started in the 2005 season.
2006 Honda returned after 38 years as Constructor in the Formula1. With the drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello. The Hungarian Grand Prix they take there victory with Jenson Button. With a 4th place in the Constructors Championship and 86 points they end the season. |
