| Biography |
By the age of 17 Barrichello had five national karting titles to his name and that year (1989) he won the GM Euroseries. Formula three was next where he won the title in 1991. The next season and his debut in Formula 3000 was not so successful as he finished third.
However by 1993 Barrichello was ready for F1 as Eddie Jordan signed up the Brazilian before his 21st birthday. In 1994 Barrichello rewarded Jordan by claiming his, and the team's first pole position in the wet at Spa-Francorchamps. Unfortunately he spun off on lap 19 of the race but he did go on to finish third at the Pacific Grand Prix and claim five other fourth positions.
Barrichello stayed with Jordan until the end of 1996 - claiming a second place in the 1995 Canadian Grand Prix. In 1997 he joined the newly formed Stewart team claiming second place at Monaco. Little success followed - mainly due to reliability problems with his car and so Barrichello joined Ferrari in 2000.
He claimed his maiden Grand Prix victory that season at a topsy-turvy German Grand Prix after fighting his way through from the back of the field. There was no victory in 2001, but he went on to record another four wins in 2002, and two more in 2003.
