| Biography |
Trulli won many World and Italian kart titles before Flavio Briatore spotted his talent and paid for him to enter into German Formula Three midway through 1995. Trulli did not disappoint - winning the remaining two races of the season. The title was a mere formality in 1996 as Trulli walked it.
His Formula One debut came soon after and under the guidance of Briatore Trulli found himself replacing an unimpressive Tarso Marques at the Minardi team. That year Trulli moved to Prost for the French Grand Prix replacing an injured Olivier Panis. He finished fourth in the German Grand Prix that year and shocked everyone by leading for more than half the race at Austria before his engine blew.
Trulli stayed at Prost for 1998 and 1999, but struggled with an uncompetitive and often unreliable car. Eddie Jordan snapped up the Italian for the 2000 season as a replacement for Damon Hill and he then began to build his reputation as one of the best qualifiers of his time putting the Jordan car on the front row of the grid twice but suffered again from an unreliable car.
After two years at Jordan Trulli moved to Renault in 2002 where he has put his experience to good use helping the team climb through the constructors championship.
