Button delighted to take victory
Jenson Button, Brawn GP

England's Jenson Button was overjoyed to take victory first time out for Brawn GP in Australia; leading from pole position, the 29-year-old led every lap of the race to eventually take the win under safety car conditions following a late race incident between Kubica and Vettel.

"The first few laps of the race were great for me," Button recalled. "I settled into a pace but when the safety car came out I struggled massively to get heat into the tyres - the car was hitting the ground! Just before the safety car pulled in I a flatspotted a tyre pretty severely, so I was struggling quite a bit with a vibration."

Despite never being never headed for the duration, the tyre tyre problem joined others such as back markers and safety car calls. Being at the front should be easy," he continued. "It was not easy at all, I tell you that. But an amazing day - some people might say it was a pity that it finished under the safety car but I don't care. I won the race today and that's all I care about."

Since Honda's withdrawal from the sport at the beginning of December, the team has fought to build a competitive car despite the worries of redundancies. "I've got to say a massive thank you to everyone for this," the emotion race winner condluded. "It's been a traumatic few months for all of us but I can't really say how tough it's been, so I've got to say thank you to the whole team and also my family for being so strong, because it's been difficult."
